This is where confidence met competition.
Trey started proving that hard work wasn’t just a slogan. It was a standard. Every practice, every round, every swing was a chance to get sharper.High school golf built the mindset that still drives him today. Long hours on the course. Cold mornings before class. Late nights studying yardages and chasing consistency. This is where the dream stopped being a dream and started becoming a plan.
The drive to compete. The belief to win. The work ethic to earn it. It all began here.
Trey had great experiences playing on two high school Varsity teams, with his first expereince coming as a 7th grader in Winona Minnesota and then his high school years in St. Peters Missouri. Trey earned his first Varsity Letter in golf while representing WHS, and competing under Coach Jon Hogenson.

As the life of a college coach continued, Trey and his family moved to St. Peters Missouri just prior to his high school days and Trey entered East High School as a highly regarded student athlete. As a freshman, Trey earned a starting spot on the Varsity Football Team by the second game of the season and a starting role on the Junior Varsity Basketball Team respectfully that winter, but it was the opportunity to get back to high school golf that excited him most!
However, life had other plans as Covid-19 hit the world that spring and shut down everyone’s daily activities including school and all school related activities; so high school golf would have to wait another year.
However, over the next three years Trey would compete under Head Golf Coach Rob Hawkins and his father Coach Don on a level that no FZE golfer may ever do again. During those three years of high school Varsity golf, Trey became the most decorated golfer to ever play at East ….

“Trey is a tremendous young man! He has a tireless work ethic and desire to do great things. However, what’s even more impressive is his character. He constantly has a smile on his face and is friendly to all. We are fortunate to have Trey at our school as he is the type of person who makes all those around him better.”
– Brian Bishop: Trey’s Former High School Principal
“I have had the pleasure of working with Trey Rusthoven as his coach. As impressive a golfer as he is, he is even more impressive as a person. Trey is not just our best golfer, but he is also a mentor to other golfers. He understands that being a leader just doesn’t mean excelling in a sport, it also means leading by example and being there for his teammates and coaches. Trey will be a success in whatever he does, but he will also make everyone better around him”.
– Rob Hawkins: Trey’s Former High School Head Golf Coach
